Avoid HOA Fines with these Exterior Cleaning Tips

If your neighborhood has a homeowner’s association, you know there are a number of rules and regulations you need to follow to avoid violations. Every HOA is different, but many of them have rules related to the cleanliness and upkeep of your house and property.

Whether you have already received a violation letter or you’re just trying to stay on top of things, a few simple power cleaning tasks can keep you in the good graces of your association.

Driveway Cleaning

Over time, dirt and debris can accumulate in driveway and walkway creases and cracks. Aside from being its own eyesore (and probably an HOA violation!), the dirt makes a nice home for weeds to grow. This is considered a landscaping issue, but it can be dealt with by proper cleaning of your driveway and walkways.

Grease stains on driveways are also typically not allowed by homeowner’s associations. If your vehicle leaks onto your driveway, you need to make sure you pressure wash the area to remove any stains. The pressure washer will take care of the dirt and weeds, too – a win win!

Window Cleaning

You and your HOA probably share the same goal of wanting your house to stay in tip-top shape and look its best. This helps the community as a whole remain an inviting, comfortable place to live, and saves you costly repairs down the road.

Your windows need to regularly be cleaned to keep them in great shape. Over time, built up dirt can etch the glass on your windows and potentially cause cracks, which will certainly earn you an HOA violation. By cleaning your windows once or twice a year, you can avoid damage and keep them sparkling.

Siding and Roof Cleaning

Aside from dirt build up, your siding and roof tend to accumulate pollen and can even grow mold, mildew, and moss. These cause visible stains that your HOA will not appreciate.

On top of that, if you let these issues go on for too long, you can end up with damage to the structure of your home.

Mold can grow under siding or shingles, and wood can warp or rot. You can avoid these issues by washing your home on a regular basis. Many HOA members hire a professional to come on a set schedule once or twice a year.

Other Exterior Cleaning Concerns

Your homeowner’s association is also keeping an eye on your other outdoor structures, so make sure you think about what else you have that will need regular cleaning. Pool decks, fences, and storage sheds, to name a few, all face the same cleaning concerns that your house does.

While you are pressure washing your house, be sure to add your other outdoor items to the list! This will save you not only from HOA fees, but also from needing to perform other repairs later on.

We Can Help!

You can certainly take on all these cleaning tasks on your own, but you don’t need to! Many homeowners prefer to outsource exterior cleaning to a professional. Did you know that you can’t just use the same psi or even the same cleaner on the different items on this list?

An expert in pressure washing knows which types of pressure and cleaning solutions are right for a roof versus a driveway, and everything in between.
